Napoleon in the Crimea

This was a game from 3 weeks ago. My friend Paul wanted to do the charge of the Light Brigade from the Crimean War but we didn't have any Crimean troops. So we used French and Russian Napoleonics instead and this is what happened........

A long look down the valley from the Russian positions.

Napoleon and his Marshalls look down the valley.

                                                  Ney leads the way

                                                   Scruby......going "Old School"

                                               The Russians wait.......

And as they wait the Guard hussars start to move.

                                                    Front Rank Dragoons

                                                 Hinchcliffe Russian lancers

The Russians can see the oncoming French.

The French move past the farms.

                                               An unimpressed peasant farmer.

                                             Still the Russians wait.

I painted these Hinchcliffe French and their commander.

I also painted these Polish guard lancers.

On comes the French, ever forward.

                                                Still waiting for the Frenchies!

Finally the French are within range.

                                               The French charge!

                                             French artillery supports the charge.

Russian Guard hussars attack the French lancers

More French cavalry join the fight.

                                               The Heavies are still coming

                                                Right into the Russian guns.

All hell breaks loose when the French hit the redoubts!

French cavalry over run the guns.

Following the cavalry are the Imperial guard.

Ney in the midst of battle

Russian guns fire into the oncoming French

Still they come crashing into the Russians

the lancers and hussars eventually destroyed the Russian guard hussars

                                            Charging the redoubts

The Russian dragoons enter the fray

As the French hussars go after the Russian high command.....

they are mauled by the dragoons.

all the French artillery can do now is watch

The Russians realize they are in dire straits

                                              The French advance is unstoppable!

The Russians still have some fight in them

With so little left, the Russians admit defeat

                                             The Emperor has his victory.
This game lasted 11 turns, most of them were French coming down the valley, but once they got there it went quickly. We gave the French a lot of troops thinking that they all wouldn't make it down the valley.
If the Russians had more guns I think it would have been different.
It was a great game all the same!
